McMaster Security Services is dedicated to the philosophy of community based
policing, which promotes shared responsibility for preserving peace, preventing crime and enhancing community safety. Community policing principles require strong partnerships with the community to jointly solve issues, which underline criminal activity and social disorder.
McMaster Security Services is pleased to announce the implementation of a new crime prevention initiative and the creation of the Diversity Constables. This initiative was presented by Special Constable Mark Smith and we are happy to support him in this endeavor. Joining Mark as a Diversity Constable are Special Constables Tamara Angelis and Svetlana Mrzic.
The Diversity Constables' focus is to maintain and enhance the Service’s community-based policing focus by improving communication, enhancing involvement with our communities, developing stronger relationships/partnerships, and focusing on proactive and collaborative policing.
Some of the Services of the Diversity Constables:
- Serve as a resource to boards, committees, commissions and agencies that provide service to McMaster’s diverse communities.
- Work in partnership with diverse communities to promote communication and understanding.
- Develop and facilitate diversity education courses, culturally specific training and intercultural communication for McMaster Special Constables.
- Provide “Intro to Canadian Law” training to new Students. This helps educate and familiarize the new Canadians with the role of Special Constables and the law in Canada.
Mark Smith, Tamara Angelis, and Svetlana Mrzic are looking forward to meeting with all community groups on campus and will be in touch in the near future.
In the meantime, please feel free to contact them directly if you have any questions about this program.
